Wappu
Wappu is a time of the year, more than just one day (locals can say that wappu is only 1.5), but for Teekkari, it is the weeks building up to that May Day celebration
It is celebrated during April, with it often spanning the whole month. On every day of Wappu, there is an event held in each university city in Finland. Meaning that it truly is a celebration you have to experience!
It finally culminates into the grandest event of the year, WAPPU EVE, where Freshers become Teekkaris and older Teekkaris are allowed to once again brandish their cherished Teekkari caps.
Usually in Finland, Wappu is linked to special foods that are only eaten during Wappu celebrations, like Sima (drink) and Tippaleipä (pastry). Also, drinking champagne and eating strawberries is usually linked to Wappu day celebrations

Annual Ball
Annual balls are held to commemorate the birthdays of various groups, such as guilds, organizations, and associations. These events adhere to a set of customary etiquette and typically follow a structured format. Primarily, the festivities, known as ‘vuosijuhlat’ or ’vujut’, revolve around activities like enjoying good food and drinks, and engaging in pleasant singing and dancing. Other potential components include speeches and the recognition of outstanding students or alumni.
The celebration typically commences with a cocktail party, during which invited guests express their greetings and gratitude to the party organizers. These guests often bring imaginative gifts as tokens of appreciation. Next Annual Ball 28.11.2026 and 20.11.2027
Sillis
A sillis (short for silliaamiainen, ”herring breakfast”) is a traditional Finnish student event held the day after a formal party, such as an annual ball (vujut).
It is a relaxed social gathering featuring casual dining, themed activities, and drinks, usually where participants wear student overalls instead of formal wear.
Excursion/XQ
‘Excursions’ encompass a range of activities such as company visits, study trips, and research journeys.
These excursions often comprise both official and informal segments, with evenings spent together after company visits being a common tradition.
Additionally, some excursions are solely recreational. Typically spanning one or more nights, these trips are a perfect chance to foster new friendships and broaden one’s professional network.
Our Guild usually has 2-3 excursions during the year where our members can meet their future employers.

Sitz party
Sitz parties are what we call academic table parties. This is where university students come together to sing sitz songs, eat good food, drink together, and follow the theme of the party often followed by an afterparty where you can socialize even more with your fellow students. However, these events are often more informal than annual balls.
Sitz parties have toastmasters who lead the event and inform you when breaks and meals are held, and their word must be followed like law. In addition, Teekkaris have their very own singing traditions and at LUT, we also have our very own and dear songbook, PunaMusta. There you can find all the necessary songs usually sung at sitz parties!
Appro
An Appro is an event similar to a bar crawl, where you go from bar to bar to collect stamps by either buying drinks or by completing certain missions. The tasks required to do for the stamp depends on the type of appro you are attending to.
For example, MOVEO’s Liiku appro has students completing sports-related checkpoints to get stamps.
By collecting a certain amount of stamps on your pass, you can trade it for an overall badge that is exclusive to that event.

IEM Coffee Session
IEM Coffee Sessions are held 2 times a year and is a good opportunity to meet our department.
It is an event where students can discuss openly with university representatives, and especially with our own Industrial Engineering and Management department, where we generally go through how courses are developed there, and what kind of development ideas students have.
This is one of the most visible parts of our advocacy. If you want to ask more, our Academic Affairs will be happy to answer.
Guild Olympics
Guild Olympics are an all-year-round event that LTKY organises. They include several Finnish sports such as Kyykkä, floorball, and ice Hockey, as well as more widely known sports like running and basketball.
This is an event format where our guild is once again one team.

Fresher Baptism
A very important event held after the Fresher weeks.
The Fresher Baptism is held to promote mere students to Freshers, also known as Freshmen. During it you walk into Lahti’s lake Vesijärvi, recite the Fresher Oath, and get baptized by your Fresher Captain.
Teekkari Baptism
Like the Fresher Baptism, the Teekkari Baptism is another crucial event held during your first year, though this time, during Wappu Eve 30.4.
After sliding down the slide into lake Vesijärvi, Freshers become Teekkaris, also known as proper engineering students. At midnight, all new Teekkaris are allowed to put on their Teekkari Cap for the very first time! While singing Teekkari Hymn.
